Here to Help! This is a new style of Sit & Sew Day with me in the background if you need a little help with your project.  This is mainly aimed at Patchwork and Quilting, or finishing off projects that you may have started on a workshop at the cabin.  It will not include Dressmaking, as this is not an area I cover.

It is help, not a full day’s teaching.  Often you know what you are doing, but need a little help and guidance with your project.

It will need to be booked in advance of the date.

Beginners Swedish Weaving with Sarah Boardman – Saturday 22nd February 2025 (10am – 4pm)

If you enjoy hand sewing or even want to have a go at a new technique, this workshop offers an opportunity to learn something new.  Having been on a couple of workshops for Swedish Weaving, I can say how enjoyable this technique is.

Sarah Boardman, a local Textile Artist, will be joining us again to offer a one day workshop teaching the fabulous hand sewing technique called ‘Swedish Weaving’. We first saw this technique when Sarah was exhibiting and we were so amazed and wanted to know more……

In Sarah’s words:-  Swedish weaving or Huck embroidery has been traditionally worked to create beautiful borders on table and bath linens and clothes such as aprons. Although it’s origins can be traced back as far as the 15th Century, it has a wonderfully contemporary quality and is perfect for creating decorative items from wall hangings and cushions to cards and small gifts.  In this introductory workshop you will learn some basic stitches and work a small band that can be made into a card, bookmark or needlecase. You will also see how to vary the design and how it can be used to create larger pieces. 

Sarah will be offering a kit for £15 which will contain what you need.  This is payable directly to Sarah on the day.

Magnus the Book Cushion (Armadillo) with Aitchbee – Sunday 16th March 2025 (10am – 4pm)

Brand NEW workshop:-

This is another of Aitchbee’s amazing creations and Magnus the Armadillo is fabulous.

In Aitchbee’s words:-

Meet Magnus the Armadillo, a friendly chap who wants to accompany your young ones while they curl up with their favourite book. The detail on Magnus is created by Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) and the project also includes a simple envelope cushion back and a carry handle. Experience of FPP would be an advantage, but not essential since I will be giving full, step-by-step, instructions this versatile technique. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Delectable Mountains with Tina Finbow – Saturday 22nd March 2025 (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New technique based workshop.  You will work with 10” squares to create your block, which can then be made into a quilt top, lap quilt size upwards.  It’s a versatile block to create your design layouts with.

Once you have the technique mastered you would be able to go away and re-size the block and make it smaller, if you want to, to make into many items such as cushion covers, sides to a bag etc.  We will talk about this on the workshop.

Tannenbaum with Tina Finbow – Starting on Sunday 23rd March 2025 (10am – 4pm) – 4 Sessions

I am very excited to have been given permission by Laundry Basket Quilts to teach Edyta Sitar’s pattern Tannenbaum.  On the course you will make the Quilt Top – it can be made bigger with borders which can be discussed on the course.

The course will be based over 4 sessions with homework and you are required by Laundry Basket Quilts to purchase the pattern to do the course.  The pattern is available as a pdf download on their website.

The course dates are:-

Week 2 – Sunday 13^th April 2025

Week 3 – Sunday 11^th May 2025

Week 4 – Sunday 18^th May 2025

This course is suitable for a Confident Beginner.

Star of Persia Lap Quilt or Table Centre with Aitchbee – Saturday 5th April 2025 (10am – 4pm)

The sample for this is hanging in the cabin and it’s a mesmerising piece of work and I think it would look great as a table centre piece on my table at home. 

In Aitchbee’s words:- 

STAR OF PERSIA Lap quilt or table centre –

Oh, we do like a quilt that looks complicated but is, in fact, very simple. The woven star illusion is created with one easy Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) block in various colours. No experience of FPP is needed for this class since I will be giving full step-by-step instructions on this versatile technique.  Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class. Finished size approx. 35 x 40 inches

This is a workshop suitable for all levels, but an option for Beginners too.

This jolly fellow would make a brilliant cushion front or bag panel and all that detail is created by Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). Some experience of FPP would be useful for this class, but is not essential for a confident sewist since I will be giving you step-by-step instructions. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Lexicon Book Cushion with Aitchbee – Saturday 24th May 2025 (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop with Aitchbee and suitable for Beginners.

In Aitchbee’s words:-

This is a great beginners project and is also fun for more experienced sewists. Based on charm squares – buy a pre-cut pack or cut your own to make this super simple design that looks complicated! Includes a handle so your little ones can take their book to their favourite reading nook. An easy-to-sew envelope back completes this delightful project. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class. Finished size approx. 16 x 16 inches

Needle Felted Chicken with Sarah Brown – Saturday 7th June 2025 (10am – 1pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop with Sarah and ideal for Beginners to Needle Felting.

You will make this very cute Chicken.  Sarah will supply a kit for £7 per person, which is payable to Sarah on the day.

Mono Print Magic with Mary McIntosh – Saturday 21st June 2025 (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New workshop with Mary McIntosh.

You will work with leaves to mono print onto semi-transparent fabric and then you will use your printed fabrics to stitch in the contemporary Pojagi piecing method. The outcome will be a unique double sided semi-transparent panel ideal to hang in a window or against a pale wall. The size can be adapted to fit your space.

Mary will provide the acrylic inks and the white and coloured cotton organdie fabric for £15
