They are such fun to make using all sorts of items from Wool to Scrim, threads to organza with various other items too.  Heavy Dissolvable Film will be available to buy for this workshop in packs on the day.

Saturday 13th April 2024 – Ice Cream Dream Beach Bag with Aitchbee – (10am – 4pm)

Brand New Workshop:-

ICE CREAM DREAM Beach Bag

SKILL LEVEL: Confident beginners and upwards

NARRATIVE: These sweet treats bring back happy memories of childhood Summers spent in Cornwall as well as more recent holidays. In this class I will show you how to make these fun six-inch blocks using my easy method of Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). You will also get information on making this capacious beach bag, perfect for picnics or to take your projects to sewing classes. Even if you have never tried FPP before, you can re-create these icy images. The bag finishes to approximately 14 (W) x 13 (D) x 19 (H) inches or make a hanging to suit your wall space. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs, diagrams and additional FPP templates, so they can complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class, knowledge of rotary cutting is also useful but not essential.

Tuesday 16th April 2024 – Beginners Cushion using Half Square Triangles – (10am – 4pm) with Tina Finbow

This is a Brand New Workshop – where you will learn all about using Half Square Triangles and then make a cushion creating your design for the front.

Half Square Triangles can make various layout designs, especially when you progress onto a quilt.  You will need a Sewing Machine with ¼” foot and walking foot for this workshop as well as your standard sewing equipment to include cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler.

Saturday 4th May 2024 – Hexagon Snail Trail Workshop with Andy from Crafty UK – (10am – 4pm)

We have the great pleasure of Andy from Crafty UK hosting a workshop here at The Cosy Cabin.  Andy will be teaching you how to use his Snail Trail Ruler and all the ideas of what designs you can create using it and you will create a Placemat plus other things.  You need your sewing machine, rotary cutter, cutting mat and fabrics – either using Jelly Roll strips or 2-6 coordinating Fat or Long Quarters.  A fun day is guaranteed.  Crafty UK will lend you the Snail Trail Ruler to use on the workshop with an option to buy it at a preferential rate at the end of the workshop.

Andy/Crafty UK will bring along lots of their other rulers too, which can be purchased on the day.

Beginners Quilt

Sunday 5th May & Sunday 19th May 2024 – Beginners Quilts with Tina Finbow  – (10am – 4pm)

This course is based over 2 sessions (Sunday 5th and Sunday 19th May 2024), and you will make a small lap quilt.  It is aimed at Beginners and you will learn how to accurately cut your fabric, piece the fabric with a ¼” seam, attach a border, layer up with wadding and a backing, machine quilt and then attach a continuous binding.

You will need your sewing machine with a ¼” foot and a walking foot, plus a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat for this course. Plus your standard sewing kit.

Beginners Quilt

Saturday 18th May 2024 – Beginners Free Motion Quilting with Lynne Pretty  – (10am – 4pm)

Have you wanted to try Free Motion Quilting?  Well if you have we have a new workshop coming up with Lynne Pretty where you will learn all the basics.

The day will start with a few small pieces to get the feel of the technique.  You will learn how to correctly baste the quilt layers for a cushion front sized piece.  You will quilt this piece following through with the techniques from the morning session using aids to get spiral and flower shapes.

This will be a work in progress piece which you can finish off at home if needs be.

Lynne will be supplying a kit on the day for £3 in cash, to include a needle and freezer paper templates to work with.

You will need a Free Motion/Embroidery/Darning foot for your sewing machine and be able to lower or cover the feed dogs.

Saturday 8th June 2024 – Needle Felted Beehive with Sarah Brown – (10am – 1pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop with Sarah where you will make this attractive Beehive.  Sarah is such a good tutor, that Beginners are welcome.

Sunday 9th June 2024 – Seminole Patchwork Cushion with Tina Finbow  – (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop – you will make a selection of different Seminole Patchwork pieces and then assemble them into a front for a cushion.  It’s a great way of trying out several of the Seminole Patchwork techniques and using them, rather than putting them into your stash.

You will need your sewing machine with ¼” foot, a cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler, preferably a ruler with a 45 degree line marked onto it.

It is one of my favourite styles of patchwork and gives great results.

Saturday 15th June 2024 – Zipped Pouch with Tina Finbow  – (10am – 4pm)

Back by popular demand, come along and has a fun day making a Zipped Pouch.  They are fun to make and ideal for yourself or for gifts.

You will learn how to make a quilted, zipped pouch, which is lined and you will learn how to put a traditional zip in.

You will need your sewing machine, a zipper foot, an open toe foot, walking foot if you have one (not essential), plus your standard sewing equipment.

Saturday 22nd June 2024 – Mini Charm Pack Zipped Pouch with Tina Finbow  – (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop, using a Mini Charm Pack (2 ½” squares).

Using Bosal this zipped pouch has a firmer structure and keeps it shape.  You can work with a pre-cut Mini Charm Pack or you can cut larger squares of your own.  There is also the option to use more than 40 squares and make it bigger.

I will also be using an easier way of inserting a Zip courtesy of Aitchbee!  I call it Helen’s Zip.

You will need your sewing machine with a ¼” foot, an open toe foot, walking foot if you have one, plus your standard sewing equipment.

Saturday 6th July 2024 – Fabric Applique Containers with Tina Finbow  – (10am – 4pm)

Following many requests I will be offering the Fabric Container workshop again.  These are really useful containers for all sorts of items from toilet rolls in a bathroom to toys and craft items.  They make great gifts too.  They are made using a product called Bosal to give them stability.  You will detail the sides with applique, various options will be available on the day, but if you have an idea of what you would like to do, please bring those ideas with you.
